Global Health Mentorship Programme

Mentorship is a key component of scientific development and scientific leadership. Building on the successful mentorship programme at the H3D Drug Discovery and Development centre in 2019-2020, the H3D Foundation manages an African-wide Global Health Mentorship Programme.

The program currently supports emerging drug discovery researchers from Cameroon, Ghana, Kenya, Mali, Nigeria, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

To date, we’ve successfully matched 117 early- to mid-career scientists from Africa with mentors from around the globe. Mentees undergo scientific leadership training and are matched with industry partners from the pharmaceutical and global health industry to provide specialised mentorship in the following five thematic areas:

  1. the scientific process
  2. scientific communication
  3. personal interactions
  4. career progression
  5. scientific responsibility

Mentors are internationally renowned senior subject matter experts from industry and academia.

The programme has been supported by the Gates Foundation (4th cohort) and European Union’s Horizon Europe (5th cohort).
