CAPE TOWN – The Grand Challenges African Drug Discovery Accelerator (GC ADDA) is proud to announce the launch of its official website (gcadda.org) and brand. GC ADDA is a network of drug discovery researchers working in Africa on unmet medical needs faced by the African patient. The H3D Foundation has played a key strategic role in coordinating the formation of the network.
The network was formally formed in 2024 through establishing the leadership bodies and onboarding members. GC ADDA currently comprises 33 members from eight countries across Africa (Cameroon, Ghana, Kenya, Mali, Nigeria, South Africa, Zambia, and Zimbabwe) and involves 23 research institutions.
Until recently, GC ADDA has operated and expanded largely through direct communication between member institutions. The launch of GCADDA.org marks an exciting new era for the network, bringing it into the public realm and securing an all-important digital footprint that we look forward to watching grow and evolve in the years to come.
GC ADDA is conceived as a network of action and connection. While Members are spread out across the continent working on individual drug discovery projects, being a part of the network creates a sense of belonging and affords members credibility and prestige due to the stringent criteria for receiving and maintaining membership. Five membership categories offer drug discovery researchers of all experience levels the opportunity to get involved:
- Full Members
- Associate Members
- Affiliate Members
- Affiliate Institution Members
- Emerging Researcher Members
Members enjoy a range of benefits, depending on their membership category, such as (to name a few):
- access to network facilities and expertise
- collaboration opportunities
- opportunities for resource mobilization and scientific exchange
- opportunities to participate in interdisciplinary teams
- access to funder and trainer networks
- access to training and mentorship opportunities
